Christie's London will be holding a Pop and Collectable
Guitars auction on 26 September 2000 at 2.00pm. Of particular interest
to Clapton fans are the following items:
Lot 16 A circa 1952 Gibson Les Paul with gold finish, lent to Eric Clapton
and used by him on various occasions, including live at the Hammersmith
Odeon, 27th April, 1977 Estimated price £8,000-10,000.
Lot 17 A 1958 Gibson Les Paul Standard, Serial No. 82453, in sunburst
finish, accompanied by a typescript note, signed, from Eric Clapton, confirming
"I recognise this guitar as the guitar that I had given to Paul Kossoff
while on tour with Blind Faith in 1968/9. I acquired this guitar while
I was with Cream and used it until I exchanged it with Paul". Estimated
price £40,000-60,000.
This Guitar is being sold for the benefit of Isabel Hospice in memory
of Paul Kossoff. Additional info re Clapton/Kossoff guitar: The guitar
was bought by EC when he was with Cream in 1968. It is thought to have
been used by him on the first date of Cream’s Farewell Tour at Alameda
County Colisseum, Oakland, USA on 4th October 1968. This concert was recorded
and some of the tracks, including White Room, Politician and Deserted Cities
Of The Heart were later released on Live Cream Volume II. Clapton swapped
it with Paul Kosoof while Free were touring with Blind Faith as support
in Summer 1969 for a black Les Paul Custom. |

Eric returned to the Surrey village of his birth, Ripley, to support
the Bunbury Cricket Club in a match against the local village side. All
proceeds from this special charity event were for the Crossroads Centre
in Antigua. |

Clapton Starts Work For Next Album. Rumors have
been confirmed that Eric Clapton is headed back to the studio to start
work on his next solo effort. On the heals of his success with Pilgrim,
Eric says he has plenty of new material and is anxious to start recording
again. Studio time has been set for June and many musicians have
already been asked to join on the album. If all goes well we could
see the album released in the Fall of 2000. Does this mean a tour
to promote this effort? Stay tuned for details. |

Eric Clapton joined Dr. John at the Blue Note
jazz club. An audience of about 300 attented the show. Eric arrived at
the club for the second show. He borrowed the Yellow Fender Stratocaster
from Dr. John's guitarist Renard Poche and joined a "C major" double shuffle
titled "Bad rock blues". |

Eric Clapton, Keith Richards Enter Studio To
Record With Hubert Sumlin. Guitarist Hubert Sumlin, best known for his
work with the late blues legend Howlin' Wolf, is recording a new solo album,
Hubert Plays Muddy Waters, with guest guitarists Eric Clapton, Keith Richards,
Kim Simmonds (Savoy Brown), Susan Tedeschi, drummer Levon Helm (the Band),
and others. Recording starts April 1 at the Showplace in Dover, N.J. A
June release is set on Mystic Music. Clapton, Richards, and Helm are expected
to perform and sing, while Tedeschi will only provide vocals. |

Waldorf Astoria Hotel, The Grand Ballroom - The
15th Annual Induction Ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Eric
Clapton was presented by Robbie Robertson, guitarist and songwriter of
The Band. Eric has already been inducted into the hall of fame twice before.
He was inducted in 1992 as a member of the Yardbirds, and again in 1993
as a member of Cream. He is the first artist inducted into the Hall three
times. Eric performed "Tears in heaven" and "Further on up the road" after
giving his acceptance speech.. |
